11-10 - Under threat of rain, Rangers bring the thunder

A.J. Griffin continues to be the Rangers surprise of 2016 as he manhandles the Yankees

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers scored ten runs against the New York Yankees tonight. Those ten runs were the most the Rangers have scored in a game this season. The ten runs the Rangers scored was also just two fewer than the total number of runs the Rangers had scored over the last five games combined.

To say the Rangers broke out of their slump at the plate would be something of an understatement as everyone except Delino DeShields had a hit and six of the nine starters drove in at least one run. Ian Desmond and Rougned Odor homered. Elvis Andrus went 3-4. Nomar Mazara reached three times.

It seems like when the Rangers click, the whole team gets in on the act.

Player of the Game: The role of Wandy Rodriguez will now be played by A.J. Griffin. Griffin pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits. Griffin is now 3-0 with an ERA of 2.52 on the year. It's almost like A.J. Griffin doesn't believe that we need Yu Darvish.

Up Next: The Rangers close out their series with the Yankees with Martin Perez making the start for Texas against LHP CC Sabathia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
