Rougned Odor has been suspended 8 games for his part in a brawl between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, per Jon Heyman on Twitter, who also says that Odor will appeal the suspension.

The brawl broke out after Jose Bautista, who had been hit by a Matt Bush pitch two batters earlier, slid hard and late into second base on a potential double play ball.  Odor shoved Bautista, and then punched him in the jaw, which led to both benches emptying and various episodes of fisticuffs before order was restored.

Eight games is about 5% of an MLB season, and is in line with what other players have gotten for physical violence in brawls -- most notably Carlos Quentin, who received 8 games for charging the mound at Zack Greinke and breaking his collarbone after being hit by a pitch.

Odor will be eligible to play pending his appeal.

UPDATE -- Jeff Wilson also says that Odor is being suspended for 8 games, and also is reporting that Elvis Andrus is being suspended one game for throwing a punch at Kevin Pillar.  Per Wilson, those are the only suspensions for Rangers.

UPDATE II -- Jose Bautista is reportedly suspended for one game, and John Gibbons for three games.  Josh Donaldson and Kevin Pillar, who both were rather active in the squabble, are not suspended.

UPDATE III -- Elvis Andrus will serve his suspension tonight and will not appeal, per Jeff Wilson.
