You might call an Elvis Andrus home run a "once in a blue moon" event, and, in the case of tonight's solo home run for Andrus, that would literally be the case. The second full moon of the month hangs in the sky tonight on an evening where the Rangers won their second consecutive 2-1 game against the Astros.
Thanks in part to Elvis' dong, the Rangers are now 5-0 against hapless Houston this season.
Here's some additional good news from tonight's game: The trio of Matt Bush, Jake Diekman, and Sam Dyson threw three scoreless innings, while striking out five Astro hitters, to secure the win and the series against the Astros. This was exactly the kind of game the bullpen had been blowing all season so it's nice to see them shut this one down and put the Rangers in the win column.
Player of the Game: I would have taken a line of six innings, one run, two hits, one walk, and four strikeouts from Yu Darvish in his first start back. Instead, Darvish has one more rehab start to go so it was Cesar Ramos making the start tonight and putting up that line against the Astros. Even when Darvish returns, the Rangers have some options for their rotation and long relief and that includes Ramos.
Up Next: The Rangers and Astros close out this series with an afternoon contest from Minute Maid. Cole Hamels will make the start for Texas against LHP Dallas Keuchel of Houston. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 pm CT.
