The Texas Rangers have placed outfielders Drew Stubbs and Shin-Soo Choo on the disabled list today, per the beat guys on Twitter. Stubbs is out 1-3 weeks with a sprained left toe, suffered while running the bases Sunday, while Choo is out with a hamstring injury suffered while running the bases on Friday.
There's no word yet on who will be called up to take their roster spots, though you would figure Jurickson Profar, who is going to be playing second base when Rougned Odor's suspension starts later this week, will get one of the slots. Jared Hoying is rumored to be a possibility for the other space, a move which would necessitate a 40 man roster spot being cleared. Possibly related, Ryan Cordell was lifted in the sixth inning of today's Frisco game. He could be getting sent up to Round Rock to replace Hoying, or he could, maybe, be in the mix.
We will know in the next hour or so, I suspect, who it will be.
UPDATE -- According to the beat guys, the Rangers are now saying that Stubbs is NOT on the disabled list as of right now, and it is a "game time decision" as to whether or not he will be on the d.l.
That's weird.
UPDATE II -- Jon Daniels says that Choo will be out 3-4 weeks with the hamstring injury. He also identifies Jared Hoying as someone who has earned serious consideration for a call up.
