Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas has suffered a torn ACL in his knee, according to multiple reports, and has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. While there are no specifics as to how long he is expected to be out, a torn ACL usually results in a player missing the season.
Moustakas suffered the injury in a collision with Alex Gordon on Sunday. Gordon was placed on the d.l. earlier this week as a result of a wrist injury that he suffered in that collision.
This is a pretty significant blow for the defending World Champs, who are currently at 24-22, 2 games back of first place in the A.L. Central. The Royals have been using Cheslor Cuthbert and Whit Merrifield to fill in for Moustakas and Gordon the past few games, and yes, those are real names...I had to go back and double-check, because Cheslor Cuthbert and Whit Merrifield sound made up.
