Texas Rangers rumors: Connor Sadzeck, righthanded starting pitcher for the Frisco RoughRiders, was scheduled to start for Frisco tonight. However, according to T.R. Sullivan on Twitter, he has been scratched, possibly as a potential option to replace Yu Darvish tomorrow.
Darvish, who was originally scheduled to start for Texas tomorrow, is instead returning to D/FW for an MRI after reporting neck and shoulder tightness during his bullpen yesterday, which was halted after just four pitches. Kyle Lohse also was scratched from his scheduled start for Round Rock today, but Sadzeck is on the 40 man roster, while Lohse isn't, which would make adding Sadzeck the easier move.
Cesar Ramos still seems to be the most likely candidate to start tomorrow, but Sadzeck or Lohse would presumably get the nod if Ramos is needed today. Alternatively, Sadzeck, who many think will end up in the bullpen anyway, due to his high-90s fastball, vicious curve, shaky third pitch, and general command issues, could end up joining the bullpen as a long man tomorrow so there is a fresh arm out there if Ramos can't work deep into the game.
Sadzeck has a 3.24 ERA over 66.2 IP in 11 games for Frisco this season, with 58 Ks against 20 walks. Sadzeck missed all of 2014 and part of 2015 due to Tommy John surgery.
