Alec Asher suspended 80 games

Former Ranger prospect Alec Asher, who was traded by Texas in the Cole Hamels trade, has been suspended 80 games for PEDs

Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Alec Asher has been suspended 80 games for testing positive for PEDs, per reports on Twitter.

Asher, 24, is a righthanded pitcher selected by the Rangers in the 4th round of the 2012 draft.  He was sent to the Phillies as part of the package for Cole Hamels, and put up a 9.31 ERA in 7 starts for Philadelphia last year post-trade.  Asher has put up a 2.30 ERA in 54.2 IP split between AA and AAA this year.

An 80 game suspension means that Asher's season is pretty much over, given how far we are into the minor league year.
