A.J. Griffin continued his efforts rehabbing back from the shoulder issues that have sidelined him for the past month-plus, pitching five innings for the Frisco RoughRiders yesterday. Griffin pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks, striking out seven.
Griffin threw 77 pitches yesterday, and reported after the game that he felt like his old self. The Rangers have an off day on Thursday, but don't plan on skipping the fifth starter spot, preferring instead to give the rest of the starting pitchers a chance to get an extra day of rest. Yu Darvish is not scheduled to return by Friday, when that spot will come up, so if Griffin is healthy and ready, he could be an option to be activated and take that start.
If the Rangers opt to keep Griffin on the rehab assignment longer, then either Cesar Ramos or Nick Martinez would likely get the start.
