Luke Jackson, the righthanded reliever who is technically a member of the Round Rock Express, is in Arlington, according to the beat guys on Twitter. Speculation is that a starting pitcher could be heading to the disabled list.
LuJack has been a Round Rock/Arlington shuttle guy, and with Cesar Ramos and Alex Claudio each pitching two innings yesterday, its possible Claudio (or Nick Martinez) could be going down to get the Rangers a fresh arm in the bullpen. Or it could by that the triceps issue that Colby Lewis is dealing with could be landing him on the d.l., and LuJack is taking his spot on the roster until A.J. Griffin, who is expected to start on Friday, is activated, in which case LuJack will be up for just one day.
In any case, it is a mysterious situation, though the consensus seems to be that there is a roster move imminent involving Jackson.
UPDATE -- Well, we now know the move...Luke Jackson has been called up, and Derek Holland has been placed on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation. If Holland is having shoulder issues, it would certainly help explain why his stuff has been off this year, though its also discouraging from a longer-term perspective.
For this weekend's series against the Red Sox, Nick Martinez, A.J. Griffin and Martin Perez will get the starts. Griffin will have to be called up, which will necessitate another roster move. With Martinez starting on Friday, the Rangers have the flexibility to send him down for Griffin, should they deem that appropriate.
