Shin-Soo Choo, the Texas Rangers outfielder who has been on the disabled list for the past two weeks, will begin a rehab assignment tonight with the Frisco RoughRiders. Choo will DH for Frisco tonight and Sunday, play the outfield for Round Rock on Monday, then re-join Frisco on Wednesday, per the beat guys. I assume at that point an evaluation will be made of how Choo, who is on the d.l. with a hamstring strain, is holding up, and what he will do as far as rehab appearances going forward.
Choo has spent most of this year on the d.l., straining his calf in the first week of the season, and then being pulled mid-game in his first game back in the majors after straining him hamstring running the bases. Choo's return, which I would guess might be the week after next, would push Nomar Mazara over to left field.
Choo and Drew Stubbs are both on the disabled list currently, but both are expected back soon. Presumably, Jurickson Profar and Jared Hoying will be sent down to make room for them.
