A.J. Griffin, who has been on the disabled list for the past month due to shoulder soreness, made his first rehab appearance this evening since going on the d.l. Griffin threw 2.1 IP for AA Frisco, giving up 1 run and 4 hits while striking out three.
Griffin, signed as pitching depth to a minor league deal this offseason, won the #5 starter job this spring, and while he was expected to just hold that spot down until Yu Darvish returned, he was generating speculation that he might stay in the rotation due to his strong performance prior to going on the d.l. Griffin, who missed all of 2014 and 2015 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, has a 2.94 ERA in 6 starts for the Rangers this season, striking out 28 and walking 14 in 33.2 IP.
Also rehabbing in Frisco this evening is Shin-Soo Choo, who is two for two with a walk as I type this. Choo is reportedly shooting to return to the active roster on Monday.
