2016 Texas Rangers Draft: Alex Speas, a righthanded pitcher out of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, is the Rangers' second round draft pick in the 2016 draft.
Alex Speas is listed at 6'4", 190 lbs., and throws hard (he reportedly has touched 95 mph) but is very raw. He's described as athletic and projectable, like most high school pitchers the Rangers take high in the draft, and while their first rounder is a polished lefty, Speas is a guy with a long way to go, but a ton of upside.
Keith Law had Speas at #35 on his Big Board, while the BA 500 had Speas at 41. We did a capsule write-up on Speas two days ago, as one of the players who looked like a potential Rangers selection, and you can read that write-up here.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ragans is getting a little below slot, with Speas getting an above-slot deal.
