The Rangers were staring at a tenth walkoff loss among their would be 30 losses this season as Minnesota and Texas dueled to a 2-2 tie through 8 1/2 innings. Texas avoided that 30th loss thanks to Matt Bush navigating through the 8th and 9th and then Ian Desmond hit a solo home run in the 10th.
Texas had gone 2-5 in extra inning games this year and with back-to-back walkoff losses in New York, the deck seemed stacked against them.
Instead, thanks to Desmond (who went 3 for 5 on the night), and a solid seven innings from Martin Perez, Texas avoided losing their third straight for the first time since losing four straight April 22-25.
Sam Dyson picked up the save and looked particularly nasty which should allow us to breathe a sigh of relief for at least one night.
Player of the Game: Desmond is going to make so much money and win the MVP award and we're going to go back and read our comments from when he signed being all mad about losing a draft pick and wanting Austin Jackson instead.
Up Next: The Rangers and Twins play tomorrow with Chi Chi Gonzalez getting the ball against Minnesota's RHP Tyler Duffey. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 pm CT.
