Texas Rangers rumors: Rougned Odor and the Rangers have been engaging in discussions about a contract extension, but those discussions have broken off, according to Jon Heyman.
The Rangers and Odor supposedly were talking extension in the offseason, and broached the subject again during his suspension earlier this year, and it sounds like the Rangers and Odor's agent, Rick Thurman of Beverly Hills Sports Council, re-engaged over the All Star Break. Heyman, however, says that the Rangers offered a deal similar to what BHSC client Gregory Polanco signed at the start of this season -- Heyman reports it was $35 million over six years, with two option years.
Odor has four years of team control after 2016, so there's not a huge rush to get a deal done, though the Rangers have shown a preference to lock up their "core players" to extensions relatively early in their careers. I suspect that this issue will be re-visited again this offseason, as both sides explore further the possibility of a deal getting done.
