As expected, the Texas Rangers have activated Yu Darvish from the disabled list today so he can make today's start against the Chicago Cubs. Darvish, who has been on the d.l. due to shoulder soreness, had been announced as today's starter earlier in the week.
To make room for Darvish on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have optioned righthanded reliever Jose Leclerc to AAA Round Rock.
Leclerc was called up to give the Rangers an extra arm in the pen, and while he kept runs off the board -- he gave up just 1 earned run in 5.2 IP over 3 outings -- he struggled to throw strikes, walking 8 batters while striking out 5. The word on Leclerc this season has been that, while there is a lot to like, his control was still a work in progress that would likely keep him from being able to be a legit option this season. We saw both aspects of that while he was up.
In the meantime, another move could be coming Tuesday...Kyle Lohse is scheduled to start then, but he is dealing with an oblique issue that could force the Rangers to either go with Cesar Ramos in his place, or call up a starter.
