The Texas Rangers have recalled righthanded pitcher Nick Martinez from AAA Round Rock. He will be starting for the Rangers tonight. To make room for Martinez on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have designated Kyle Lohse for assignment.
If that sequence sounds familiar, well, just 18 days ago, the Rangers optioned Nick Martinez so that they could purchase the contract of Kyle Lohse, with Lohse taking Martinez's spot in the rotation.
Lohse wasn't particularly good in AAA for Texas prior to his being called up, and in two starts for the Rangers, he allowed 13 runs on 14 hits (4 of them home runs) and 5 walks, with just 3 strikeouts, good for a 12.54 ERA and a 9.67 FIP.
Martinez has a 6.45 ERA and a 7.30 FIP for the Rangers in 6 games over 22.1 IP this season. However, he's pitched well since being sent down, allowing 3 runs in 16 innings over three outings, with 17 Ks against just 1 walk. His last outing was an 8 IP, 8 K, 0 walk, 1 run game. Hopefully, Martinez has made some adjustments since going down, and is ready to step up and give the Rangers a solid performance tonight.
