Rangers 3, Royals 2

  • Cole Hamels is something else, isn't he?  That outing tonight...that's why the Rangers gave up five solid prospects to get him.  Cole Hamels is wonderful.
  • Final line for Hamels tonight: 8 IP, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 12 K's, 123 pitches.  The line says it all.  Hamels was superb.
  • Sam Dyson pitched the ninth, walked the lead off batter, saw him steal second, saw him advance to third after a one out ground out, but escaped with no runs scoring.  Huge assist to Rougned Odor, who was backing up the steal at second and snagged a wild throw from Robinson Chirinos that otherwise would have allowed pinch runner Jarrod Dyson to advance to third on the steal.
  • Dyson didn't look quite right tonight, with his velocity down and his command off.  My guess is that he isn't used tomorrow, even if there's a save situation.
  • The Rangers had a measly four hits tonight...but three of them were home runs.  Solo home runs, to be clear, two by Mitch Moreland and one by Odor.  That was all the team needed, thanks to Cole.
  • One footnote on a play that ultimately didn't matter...Odor, with one out in the eighth, hit a grounder than resulted in a place at first, with Odor sliding in rather than running through the bag.  Though called safe initially, that call was reversed after replay.  Kids, don't slide into first.
  • Houston is off tonight, so the lead in the West is back up to three games.
