60-44 - Rangers youngsters impress in victory over Royals

New, comments

As the terrible, no good July nears its end, the Rangers became the first AL team to win 60 games

It was nice to finally have a comfortable win as Texas trounced the Royals 8-3 tonight. In addition, this win was especially nice as the Rangers saw their young core come to life.

Nomar Mazara is 21 years old. Tonight he went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI.

Rougned Odor is 22 years old. He hit two home runs tonight. He's hit 21 dingers in 2016 to lead the team. And he looked good in the field tonight.

Jurickson Profar is 23 years old. Profar went 2-for-3 with a walk and a oppo solo dong while playing left field for the first time to make the scouts in the crowd have to adjust themselves in the seats.

A.J. Griffin picked up the win after throwing 5 2/3 innings of solid ball. The win was the first for a Rangers starter other than Cole Hamels since Martin Perez beat the Red Sox on June 26.

In Detroit, the Tigers pummeled the Astros 14-6 to drop Houston four games back of Texas in the American League West.

Player of the Game: This space was nearly reserved for Profar until Odor hit his second dinger of the night to reclaim the team lead with 21 home runs. On the night, Odor went 3-for-4 with two dongs and looked locked in at second base, as well.

Up Next: The Rangers and Royals continue their battle from Arlington with Martin Perez getting the start against RHP Ian Kennedy. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT.
