The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Josh Reddick and lefthanded pitcher Rich Hill from the Oakland A's in exchange for minor league pitchers Jharel Cotton, Grant Holmes and Frankie Montas. Both Reddick and Hill were mentioned as potential Ranger targets, with Hill, in particular, seen as being someone Texas might target.
Reddick and Hill are both free agents after the season, which makes this a pure rental for the Dodgers. The A's had made noise about possibly holding onto Hill, and getting a draft pick when they made him a qualifying offer this offseason, but clearly they found a deal they like better.
In the meantime, Jay Bruce was reportedly going to the Mets in a deal that had been agreed to, but there is a hold up involving the medicals of one of the prospects involved, and it remains to be seen whether that will be resolved.
In addition, the Red Sox have acquired reliever Fernando Abad from the Twins, another player mentioned as a potential Ranger target.
