Shin-Soo Choo, Texas Rangers outfielder, has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a broken left forearm. The team has indicated he will undergo surgery tomorrow on his arm, with a plate being inserted. To take his place on the 25 man roster, the Rangers have recalled Ryan Rua.

Rua was sent down last week when Drew Stubbs was activated from the 60 day disabled list, and the plan had been for Rua, who had been slumping while in a part-time role in the majors, to get regular at bats in Round Rock before returning to the majors when rosters expanded in September. However, the injury to Choo necessitated a return before than, and Rua is in the lineup tonight. It will be interesting to see how the Rangers allocate playing time in the outfield and at DH and first base. Ian Desmond and Carlos Beltran are going to play basically ever day, but there are still three spots that will be filled by a rotating combination of Mitch Moreland, Nomar Mazara, Jurickson Profar, Delino DeShields, and Ryan Rua.

The loss of Choo is a big blow to the Rangers, especially given its doubtful he will be ready to return when the playoffs start. Choo is an on base machine who has fueled the Ranger offense from the top of the order, and the Rangers will miss him in the lineup.
