Lucas Harrell injured, leaves game early

Lucas Harrell left today's start after two innings due to a groin injury

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers righthanded pitcher Lucas Harrell left tonight's start against the Oakland A's after just two innings due to injury.  Harrell suffered a groin strain, according to the Rangers.

Alex Claudio came into the game to replace Harrell, though the Rangers don't have a true long man, and the Rangers will presumably be looking at putting Harrell on the disabled list before tomorrow's game so that they can bring up a fresh arm to fill in in the bullpen.

Meanwhile, this may put the Rangers in a situation where Derek Holland is going to be activated in the near future.  Holland has made three rehab starts and has proclaimed himself ready to return from the disabled list when he is eligible on August 21.  The Rangers have two off days coming up which would allow them to juggle the rotation somewhat to delay Harrell's spot coming up again, but at this point, I think its fair to assume that Holland will be getting that start.
