The Texas Rangers have optioned righthanded pitcher Nick Martinez to AAA Round Rock, per John Blake on Twitter.
Martinez was called up when Lucas Harrell went on the 15 day disabled list, giving the Rangers a true long man in the bullpen until a starting pitcher was needed again. The Rangers are going to activate Derek Holland from the 60 day disabled list to start against Cincinnati tomorrow, and thus Martinez going down opens up a spot on the 25 man roster for Holland.
No indication yet what move will be made to clear a spot on the 40 man roster once Holland is activated, though Harrell going to the 60 day disabled list is a possibility, as is Michael Roth being designated for assignment, Shin-Soo Choo going on the 60 day d.l., or Shawn Tolleson being recalled and put on the 60 day d.l.
