The Texas Rangers have officially added Jeremy Jeffress to the active roster today. Jeffress, acquired as part of the Jonathan Lucroy trade, did not report until today. To make room for Jeffress on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned infielder Hanser Alberto to AAA Round Rock.
I was initially surprised by the decision to option Alberto, as that leaves the Rangers with a three man bench -- however, if Shin-Soo Choo is being activated in the near future (he's eligible to return tomorrow), Texas may simply choose to go with a three man bench until he returns, at which point a reliever would presumably be sent down.
