The New York Yankees will be releasing Alex Rodriguez, the long-time shortstop, third baseman and now DH who was with the Rangers from 2001-03, on Friday, August 12. Rodriguez is currently leaving it up in the air whether he will try to play in the majors again going forward, although just off the top of my head, my sense is that the Miami Marlins would probably love to find a way to bring him there, even though there's no DH in the National League.
I'm sure there will be recriminations by many fans and media, saying how glad they are he is gone, and Rangers fan have, for whatever reason, a very negative view of Rodriguez. Personally, I think he's one of the greatest players ever to play the game, am thrilled he spent three years with the Rangers (even though I wish it were longer), and feel its necessary to point out his three years with Texas were the three greatest individual seasons in team history.
If this is it, congratulations on a great career, ARod.
