The Texas Rangers have activated Colby Lewis from the 60 day disabled list today, in advance of his start this afternoon against the Anaheim Angels. To make room on the 40 man roster for Lewis, the Rangers have designated lefthanded pitcher Michael Roth for assignment.
Lewis’s activation today was a given, with the only question being how the team cleared a 40 man spot for him. Roth, 26, was signed in February by the Rangers as a free agent, and was added to the 40 man roster earlier this year so he could make a spot start. That was the lone appearance he made for the Rangers, and he allowed 6 runs on 10 hits (including three home runs) in 3.2 IP in that outing.
The Rangers now have 10 days to waive, trade or release Roth.
