Baseball America has released their AZL top 20 prospect list today, the beginning of their league top 20s that are rolling out over the next month, and Leody Taveras is the number one prospect on their list.
Taveras, signed by the Rangers to a $2.1M bonus as part of the team’s 2015 J-2 class, has been generating buzz all year, starting in spring training, and he’s described by BA as a potential five tool player who “draws comparisons with a young Carlos Beltran.” The switch-hitting center fielder earned a late season promotion to the Northwest League, and is probably the team’s best position prospect at this point.
Also making the list for the Rangers were Anderson Tejeda, at #11, and Kole Enright, at #16. Tejada was a 2014 J-2 signing, and the 18 year old lefty hitting infielder put up solid numbers in both the AZL and the Northwest League this year. Enright, the team’s 3rd round pick this year, is an 18 year old switch hitting third baseman who showed solid hitting skills as well as earning praise for his commitment to getting better.
