Pudge Rodriguez is a Hall of Famer.
Well, the former Texas Ranger catcher has long been a Hall of Famer in terms of his play...but it has become official today, with the news that Pudge Rodriguez has been elected in his first year on the ballot.
Pudge appeared on 76% of ballots, getting in by a margin of just a few ballots. I wasn’t too concerned about whether he’d get in this year or not, because if he didn’t get in this year, he’d definitely get in next year...but it is awesome that he’s a first ballot guy.
Joining Rodriguez in this year’s class are Jeff Bagwell and Tim Raines. Bagwell, the long-time Astro, and Raines, the long-time Expo, are extremely deserving candidates who shouldn’t have had to wait this long to be inducted.
Congratulations to this year’s class. And Rangers fans, rejoice in there being another player going in with a “T” on his hat.
