Keith Law’s prospect rankings continue to roll out, and the Texas Rangers have teenage outfield prospect Leody Taveras checking in at a surprisingly high #35. That is above, among others, Lewis Brinson, the center fielder the Rangers sent to Milwaukee in the Jonathan Lucroy trade.

Taveras has generated a bunch of positive reviews as a switch-hitting true center fielder who has prompted comparisons to Carlos Beltran. Law says the question with Taveras is about his hit tool, and how good it really is right now, with his development possibly being best served returning to the short-season A Northwest League in 2017, rather than going to full season A. Given that Taveras will play the whole season at age 18, being back in Spokane with the NWL would still be pretty advanced.

Taveras is a guy I think its fair to have some excitement about right now, a potential star player who is several years away, but whose potential is undeniable.
