Texas Rangers minor league pitchers Tanner Scheppers and Preston Claiborne are among those players who have opted for free agency, per Baseball America’s updated minor league transactions list. Scheppers and Clairborne had been previously removed from the 40 man roster, and have sufficient professional service time to opt for free agency, rather than remaining in the Rangers’ system.

Others who had been on the 40 man roster this season, but who are now off and have officially elected to become free agents, are Jhan Marinez, Phil Gosselin, Will Middlebrooks, Anthony Bass and Joely Rodriguez.

The other noteworthy move for Texas that is on the BA list is the release of Todd McDonald. McDonald was signed out of Australia in 2013 as a 17 year old to a $500,000 signing bonus, but never made it out of short-season ball.
