The Boston Red Sox have announced that they have hired Houston Astros bench coach Alex Cora to be the team’s new manager, with Cora to take over duties with Boston once the World Series (which the Astros are playing in) concludes.

Cora, a 42 year old native of Puerto Rico, was very briefly a member of the Texas Rangers, spending three weeks on the 2010 Rangers club that went to the World Series. He also interviewed with the Rangers for their manager job after the 2014 season. Along with Cora, the Rangers also interviewed current Rays manager Kevin Cash and current D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo before ultimately hiring Jeff Banister.
