San Diego Padres acquire Chase Headley, Bryan Mitchell

In a salary dump, the Yankees have sent Chase Headley and Bryan Mitchell to the Padres for Jabari Blash

The New York Yankees have sent infielder Chase Headley and pitcher Bryan Mitchell to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Jabari Blash. This appears to be a salary dump by the Yankees, as the 33 year old Headley — originally drafted by the Padres in 2005, and traded by them to the Yankees in 2014 — is in the final year of a deal that will pay him $13 million in 2018, while Blash is a 28 year old outfielder who hasn’t really hit in the majors.

No word yet on how much, if any, of Headley’s salary the Yankees are paying, but one would assume he will be playing third base for the Padres. Wil Myers is at first base currently, and the Padres are pursuing Eric Hosmer, as well. Ryan Schimpf and Cory Spangenberg split time at third base for the Padres in 2017.

So kind of a weird, minor deal on Day Two of the Winter Meetings.
