Texas Rangers rumors: Yu Darvish has met with the Chicago Cubs and the Houston Astros in the past day, and Jim Bowden says on Twitter that Darvish's next meeting will be with the Rangers. This is a new development, as the beat guys were saying just this afternoon that no meetings with Darvish were planned.
There's been a kind of "will they or won't they" vibe about the Rangers and Darvish throughout the year, with much talk early in the year about both team and player having interest continuing the relationship, followed by reports that a reunion was unlikely, with various stories since indicating varying levels of belief that Darvish returning to Texas is either completely off the table or something that makes too much sense not to happen or somewhere in between.
The free agent market has been very slow developing, though the Rangers have been one of the more active teams, particularly in regards to pitching, as they've signed four free agent pitchers to major league deals while also trading for Matt Moore. Texas theoretically has a full five man rotation, but they've expressed a willingness to explore a six man rotation, which is what Darvish pitched in in Japan.
So who knows...this could be a courtesy meeting, or there really good be momentum towards Darvish returning to Texas. We shall have to wait and see...
