The Baseball America organizational farm system rankings are out, and the Texas Rangers are ranked #22 out of 30 teams. That’s a big change for the Rangers, who were 7th prior to last year, and who have been no lower than 11th in the prior five years.
This isn’t exactly a big surprise, though...the Rangers sent out a lot of talent in the Cole Hamels and Jonathan Lucroy/Jeremy Jeffress trades, and that, combined with promotions and what has been, so far, a rather disastrous 2015 draft (when they were picking #4 overall), means Texas is in the bottom third, according to BA.
Elsewhere in the A.L. West, the Astros are currently sitting at #3 in the BA rankings. Oakland is #17, Seattle is #23, and the Angels are #29.
