Tuesday Morning Texas Rangers Update

The latest news and notes on the back-to-back American League West Champion Texas Rangers

MLB: Texas Rangers-Media Day Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning.

Jeff Wilson has his Surprise Five thoughts on camp from yesterday which includes his wish for where the Rangers should visit next spring.

Levi Weaver writes about the Rangers’ 7-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants last night.

Wilson recaps the win with Yu Darvish and Carlos Gomez leading the way for Texas.

T.R. Sullivan writes that Gomez’s grand slam and 5 23 scoreless innings from the relief trio of Austin Bibens-Dirkx, Dillon Gee, and Allen Webster helped the Rangers win a third Cactus League game in the last three days.

Wilson writes about Delino DeShields partying like it’s 2015 this spring as he rediscovers what made him a rookie success.

Sullivan reports that hard-throwin’, waiver-claimed R.J. Alvarez is having a solid spring and could become a bullpen option this year.

Wilson writes that Tyson Ross threw some breaking balls off the mound as he continues to make progress on his slow but steady rehab this spring.

Sullivan notes that speed is another reason Drew Robinson is getting an extended look for a bench spot this spring.

Here’s an awful Mac Engel article...but not for the reasons you might think. Engel writes about Robinson Chirinos’ recent issues within his struggling country of Venezuela and, yeah, I believe I am encouraging you to read a Mac Engel column.

Tall, projectable lefty Brett Martin is due for a breakout season and lands at No. 5 on WFAA’s Top Prospect list.

Lastly, Rougned Odor’s *cough* go-ahead single and run scored in the 9th inning made him a hero in last night’s do or die victory for Venezuela over Italy in the World Baseball Classic.

Have a nice day!
