Saturday morning Rangers news and links

MLB: Spring Training-Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, folks...

The Rangers beat the Angels, 6-5, in Arizona, and lost to the Indians, 3-2, in San Antonio.

Levi Weaver has write-ups of both the loss in S.A. and the win in AZ.

Evan Grant has his “Takeaways” from the game in Arizona, and Gerry Fraley has his “Takeaways” from the San Antonio loss.

A.J. Griffin had a strong performance yesterday, as he looks to claim a rotation spot.

Andrew Cashner threw a bullpen on Friday, and appears to be on track to be ready to be in the major league rotation in mid-April. Jeff Banister says the club is considering skipping the fifth spot until Cashner returns.

Chi Chi Gonzalez, on the other hand, will not throw for six weeks after being diagnosed with a partially torn UCL.

Gil Lebreton says that Delino DeShields and Jurickson Profar are making the team’s decision to stand pat with them look good.

DeShields has been getting more time in left field this spring.

Drew Robinson has impressed this spring, but there may not be enough at bats for him to warrant keeping him on the major league roster.

T.R. Sullivan is the latest to write about the improvement from Joey Gallo this spring.

The team’s clubhouse chemistry is expected to be a strength in 2017.

Robinson Chirinos took over as Team Venezuela’s regular catcher once Salvador Perez went down, and he’s earning praise for his work behind the plate.

Evan says the WBC has impacted pitching coach Doug Brocail.

Bobby Jones retired after last season, but he still came to Surprise.

Jeff Wilson has his “Surprise Five” notes from camp.

Sullivan has notes on Cashner, Jones, Tyson Ross, Tony Barnette, and Martin Perez.
