Ronald Guzman scouting report: Bernie Pleskoff of FanRag Sports has an extensive write-up and scouting report on Texas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman this morning.
Guzman is someone who we have talked about for some time, part of the big money J-2 class out of Latin America in 2011 that also featured Nomar Mazara and Yohander Mendez. The recipient of one of the largest bonuses in J-2 history at the time — $3.45 million — Guzman was initially the most highly regarded of the Rangers’ signees from that class, but early problems with his power and hit tool development had him as almost an afterthought prior to 2016.
A nice campaign at Frisco last year, however, earned him a late season promotion to AAA Round Rock and a spot on the Rangers’ 40 man roster. Guzman also filled out this offseason, reporting at 6’6”, 255 lbs., and will likely start the year as the regular first baseman at Round Rock.
