Nomar Mazara named A.L. Player of the Week

Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara has been named the American League Player of the Week

Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara has been named the American League Player of the Week for the first week of the season, per John Blake on Twitter.

It continues a trend of Mazara getting early season accolades, as he was named the American League Rookie of the Month for April, 2016, and May, 2016. Mazara appeared to be the early favorite for the A.L. Rookie of the Year Award last year, though he tailed off in the second half and ended up with a respectable, though not great, 2016 season, with a .266/.320/.419 slash line in 568 plate appearances.

Mazara has 2 home runs, including a grand slam, and a major league leading 9 RBIs so far this year, and has put up a .417/.462/.750 slash line through the first six games.
