Nomar Mazara was named the American League Player of the Week for last week. Jeff Banister says Mazara has a “special IQ” for hitting.

Andrew Cashner threw five innings in an extended spring game yesterday. It is expected he will make at least one more rehab start before returning to the major league rotation.

Cole Hamels wants to have less-stressful innings and be able to pitch for many years to come.

Jake Diekman is having surgery Wednesday, after which he is supposed to have six weeks of no activity.
