The Texas Rangers have placed Adrian Beltre, Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross, Brett Nicholas, Tanner Scheppers, and Hanser Alberto on the 10 day disabled list, and Chi Chi Gonzalez on the 60 day disabled list, per John Blake on Twitter.
None of these moves are a surprise, and this just finalizes the setup for the Opening Day roster we discussed yesterday.
Beltre should be activated by the beginning of next week, and Scheppers doesn’t appear likely to be on the shelf for long, either. Cashner is looking at a mid- to late-April return, while Ross is probably late-May.
Nicholas should be activated at some point in April and optioned to AAA Round Rock, while Alberto’s status is up in the air while he deals with shoulder issues.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, is out until at least the middle of the season after undergoing a platelet-rich plasma injection for a damaged UCL. By putting him on the 60 day d.l., the Rangers have opened up a 40 man roster spot for Dillon Gee, who Blake says has been signed to a major league deal and optioned to Round Rock.
