Texas Rangers pitcher Sam Dyson and catcher Brett Nicholas will be heading down to Round Rock on Monday to begin rehab assignments, according to John Blake. Dyson is apparently slated to pitch for the Express both Monday and Tuesday, per the beat guys.
Dyson was placed on the 10 day d.l. with a contusion on his hand after blowing a save against the M’s last weekend. The move seemed to be a “clear your head” thing, and he will likely go pitch a couple of games for Round Rock and then, if he appears to be back on track, will come back to Texas fairly quickly and be utilized in low-leverage situations.
Nicholas, meanwhile, underwent knee surgery this spring and started the season on the 10 day d.l. He will likely spend a few days on rehab before being activated from the disabled list and optioned to AAA Round Rock, where he will give the Rangers their third catcher on the 40 man roster who can be called up should something happen with Jonathan Lucroy or Robinson Chirinos.
