The Texas Rangers have activated pitcher Sam Dyson and catcher Brett Nicholas from the disabled list, per John Blake on Twitter. Nicholas was optioned to AAA Round Rock, and to make room for Dyson on the active major league roster, pitcher Anthony Bass was also optioned to AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers now don’t have a true long man, which means that Alex Claudio is likely your de facto long man. Nick Martinez is starting today for the Rangers, and if he gets knocked around, then I presume the Rangers would send him down tomorrow and get a fresh arm up for the bullpen for Saturday’s game.
Of course, A.J. Griffin will be making a rehab start tonight, and if Griffin is fine, the Rangers will probably option Martinez tomorrow anyway in order to get a fresh arm up until Griffin returns to the rotation.
