Texas Rangers pitcher Andrew Cashner will make a rehab start for the AA Frisco Roughriders on Monday, April 10, per the beat guys. The righthander started the season on the disabled list due to biceps tendintis.
Cashner, who pitched a sim game today, had expressed a desire to join the major league rotation on April 15, the first time the Rangers need a fifth starter this year. Pitching coach Doug Brocail, however, has expressed a preference for Cashner to make at least two rehab starts before being activated, which would put him on schedule for April 20.
Nick Martinez or Dillon Gee would seem to be the most likely candidates to be called up to start on April 15 if Cashner doesn't go. My guess is that Drew Robinson, currently the fourth bench guy, gets sent down on April 15, with the Rangers sticking with an eight man bullpen.
