Video: Leody Taveras home run. Texas Rangers minor league outfielder Leody Taveras has rocketed up the prospect lists after his strong 2016 season, and the team opted to challenge the 18 year old with a full season assignment at low-A Hickory.
Taveras has responded early by going 2 for 8 with a walk and a home run, which you can see video of in this story from Baseball America, which has notes from yesterday’s game.
Taveras has evoked comparisons to Carlos Beltran due to his well-rounded skill set as a switch hitter and his being a true center fielder, someone who is likely to stick there long-term
While the extent of the depletion of the farm system has been discussed quite a bit, the lower levels have some exciting guys to watch, and Taveras, as well as 2016 first rounder Cole Ragans, appear to be at the top of the list. I’m looking forward to seeing how Taveras progresses this year.
