Video: Ronald Guzman home run. Texas Rangers minor league first baseman Ronald Guzman went deep for the Round Rock Express last night, recording his first home run of the season in Round Rock’s 8-3 loss.
The 22 year old Guzman was added to the 40 man roster this past offseason after a solid 2016 campaign where he spent most of the year at AA Frisco prior to spending the final month at AAA Round Rock. He was part of the big J-2 class in 2011 that included Nomar Mazara and Yohander Mendez, and as a first baseman, he’ll advance as far as his bat carries him. More home runs like that one last night will help his case for being a major league regular.
Meanwhile, if you want to check out the younger Profar, Juremi went deep for the Frisco Roughriders last night. He’s still a fringe prospect, at best, especially given the lack of a true defensive position, but still...
Finally, at around the 25 second mark, below, you can see the first professional home run for Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The 2013 4th rounder is slated to catch around 40 games for AA Frisco this year, while spending the rest of his time at various infield spots. He’s never going to hit a ton, but if he can be a serviceable catcher AND a serviceable shortstop, he could carve out a major league career.
