Texas Rangers draft: Keith Law’s mock draft, the first he has done for this draft (or at least, it is labeled 1.0, so I assume it is the first), is out, and he has the Rangers selecting Stillwater, Oklahoma, shortstop Ryan Vilade at #26.

Vilade is #66 on the BA top 100 draft prospect list, and the righthanded hitter is projected to end up having to move to third base, rather than sticking at shortstop. I am skeptical about this pick, since Vilade isn’t a toolsy outfielder from the south, and am sticking with Bubba Thompson or Drew Waters as my preliminary guess for Texas there.

Along with the #26 pick, the Rangers have a compensatory pick at #29, which they received for losing Ian Desmond to the Colorado Rockies. The draft is still a month away, and when we get closer, I will do some capsule profiles of guys we could see Texas pick.
