Carlos Gomez to the d.l., but not Shin-Soo Choo

Jon Daniels says Carlos Gomez is heading to the disabled list, but Shin-Soo Choo isn't

Texas Rangers outfielder Carlos Gomez is headed to the disabled list, according to Jon Daniels (who, per folks on the Tweetbox, made that announcement on 105.3 FM this afternoon), but Shin-Soo Choo will remain on the active roster.

Choo was scratched from yesterday’s game with a sore back. Gomez was lifted after straining his hamstring while scoring a run in the bottom of the 7th. Gomez was slated to have an MRI today, but with a hamstring issue, regardless of the MRI result, it seems a trip to the ten day d.l. is inevitable.

No word yet on how who is slated to replace Gomez (expected to miss 4-6 weeks) on the active roster, though Daniels said that decision has already been made. The three choices would seem to be Jared Hoying, Drew Robinson and a Jurickson Profar, with Hoying and Robinson seemingly having an edge because they can play center field. Robinson and Profar are on the 40 man roster currently, while Hoying isn’t, and Texas would have to make a move to clear a spot for Hoying.

Delino DeShields will presumably be the regular center fielder while Gomez is out, with the player replacing Gomez on the active roster splitting time in left field with Ryan Rua. Round Rock plays at Reno at 8:35 pm today, so we may be able to figure out once that lineup is released who is being called up.

UPDATE — Jared Hoying is not in the lineup tonight for Round Rock, while Jurickson Profar and Drew Robinson are. Thus, I think it's a safe bet that Hoying is coming up tomorrow.
