Jared Hoying up, Carlos Gomez to the d.l.

The Rangers have purchased the contract of Jared Hoying to replace Carlos Gomez on the active roster

MLB: Texas Rangers-Media Day Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of Jared Hoying from AAA Round Rock. To make room for him on the 25 man roster the Rangers placed Carlos Gomez on the 10 day disabled list. To make room for him on the 40 man roster the Rangers have moved Hanser Alberto to the 60 day disabled list.

This is the move we anticipated would be coming down after Jon Daniels announced yesterday that Gomez would be headed to the disabled list with a hamstring strain expected to sideline him for four to six weeks. Hoying gives the Rangers a left handed bat that can back up center field. Most likely, Ryan Rua and Delino DeShields will be the regular left fielder and center fielder, respectively, while Gomez is out.

In addition, Drew Stubbs has been signed to a minor league deal, and assigned to Round Rock.
