Austin Bibens-Dirkx, the journeyman who the Texas Rangers have pressed into duty as a long man, and who has responded well, could be getting his first major league start this week, as Jeff Banister says the Rangers are leaning towards using Bibens-Dirkx Wednesday, per the beats on Twitter.
That spot in the rotation is normally A.J. Griffin’s, but Griffin is on the disabled list with an intercostal strain. Dillon Gee was recalled from AAA Round Rock on Saturday to replace Griffin, and has been expected to make that start, but it sounds like he could end up being the long man for the time being.
Bibens-Dirkx, 32, has a 3.97 ERA over 11.1 IP in 4 games for the Rangers this season. Gee has yet to pitch in the majors this year.
