13-17 - Upon further review, Rangers beat Mariners in 13 innings

Rougie Odor put this game out of its misery with a two-run home run in the 13th

I wrote like 1000 words about the Rangers scoring just one run off of Yovani Gallardo and ruining an otherwise feisty Yu Darvish effort but then Rougned Odor hit a blast into the early Seattle morning sky and made everything OK again.

Of note: Alex Claudio picked up the save just a few days after making his first big league start. Alex Claudio is awesome.

Before Rougie's dong, the Rangers had collected just six hits. Three came off the bat of Elvis Andrus, two from Delino DeShields, and a single from Shin-Soo Choo. Choo's single in the 7th inning was Texas' last hit before Odor's eventual game-winner.

Also, the Mariners used three pitchers in the 11th inning after relievers Jean Machi and Evan Marshall left with injuries just two pitches apart.

Player of the Game: Yu Darvish was back out there after the Rangers gave him an extra day of rest and he acquitted himself well by tossing seven innings and allowing just one run on a Robinson Cano home run. Darvish wasn't his sharpest but he got himself out of the jams he found himself in.

Up Next: The Rangers and Mariners reconvene for the second game of this three game set with Martin Perez taking the mound for Texas against RHP Chase De Jong of Seattle. The Mariners and Rangers combined to use 13 pitches in tonight's game so they'll need some innings out of their starters. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 pm CT.
