The Texas Rangers have placed righthanded reliever Jose Leclerc on the 10 day disabled list with a bone bruise on his finger. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled left handed reliever Dario Alvarez. Alvarez had been optioned to AAA Round Rock just yesterday, but apparently stayed in Seattle then traveled with the team to San Diego. Since he is replacing a pitcher who was put on the d.l., the normal ten day wait to be recalled isn't applicable.
Leclerc has been a weapon out of the pen for much of the season, but has been used sparingly over the last ten days or so while dealing with the finger problem. Jeff Banister used Leclerc yesterday, but he walked three of the five batters he faced, and it appears the Rangers are opting to go ahead and let him fully heal.
